Hering AG is a market leader for custom heat exchangers, designing and manufacturing shell and tube heat exchangers, setting standards in quality, design and function. Hering’s heat exchangers are continuously improved, last longer and function more efficiently. Parallel to this, continuous investment, evolving development and refinement of their products have introduced new application areas in many global industries.
Identifying goals
The company was working on a supply of heat exchanger equipment for a mining project in Canada, where exploration of the mine needed a lot of energy. The client wanted a heat recovery unit supplier to help with energy management in the mine. This project was 6–8 months long and challenging due to the size of the equipment to be manufactured and installed, plus the timeline to deliver and have everything working in–situ. This was a massive project; the goal was to deliver the units in record time with the right calculations performed and approved while ensuring they could meet all their clients’ needs.
Overcoming challenges
Hering AG has a global customer base, selling products manufactured following ASME and EN standards. They usually relied on external companies to perform code calculations. Having a large number of projects to execute, they found that when they needed to outsource the calculations, the external contractors they relied on couldn’t always meet the project timelines due to insufficient resources.
The main challenge was predicting how long it would take external agencies to complete their work, which made it difficult to plan and deliver projects effectively.
To overcome this challenge, Hering AG sought a solution to help them complete calculations without relying on external companies alone. This meant they could complete projects quicker - something they needed to ensure if they were to continue to win more business from their clients.
Realizing results
When Hering AG set out to design and build the heat exchangers for the mining project, they knew they needed a solution that would be straightforward to use and produce high-quality results fast. They also needed to ensure their designs conform to the project design codes and standards.
They chose Aspect Pressure Vessel (formerly PV Elite) because of its reputation for accuracy and speed, plus Octaves commitment to customer service and satisfaction. The partnership paid off: Hering AG received the help and achieved the results they were looking for.
The main factor influencing Hering AG’s decision to choose Aspect Pressure Vessel was Octave’s ability to provide technical support throughout the process, ensuring the project engineers knew how to use and get the most from the software and produced high-quality designs. They benefited by saving approximately three weeks of scheduled time because of the software’s ease of use and flexibility, allowing them to do iterative calculations independently without depending on external support.
The Octave team also provided training on how best to use Aspect Pressure Vessel for Hering AG’s employees before production began so that everyone was ready to start within a week.
Moving forward
Aspect Pressure Vessel was an excellent fit for Hering AG because it offered a cost-effective solution that helped the company increase efficiency and productivity.
Octave’s solution has helped Hering AG increase its product quality and working efficiency and complete the project within the timeline. They were 100 percent satisfied with the training and planned to use Aspect Pressure Vessel for their upcoming projects. They were happy with how the Octave team was helpful throughout the process without making things complex.
