Ranked among the world’s five largest construction groups by revenue, Bouygues operates building and civil works projects worldwide.
At the heart of this industrial organization, Bouygues Construction Matériel plays a key role as the reference partner for Bouygues Construction worksites in matters related to equipment. In France alone, this represents tens of thousands of assets, ranging from small tools to complex installations such as cranes and formwork systems. Each must be maintained, kept compliant and transported to worksites within often very tight deadlines.
Identifying goals
To improve the performance of its complex equipment flows, the company launched a modernization program in 2022. The goal was to move from a fragmented environment, where requests were often handled informally and tracking was done manually in Excel, to a centralized, cloud-based and real-time management approach.
This transformation was not simply about replacing a tool but about changing work methods and strengthening the relationship between internal departments and worksites, which are Bouygues Construction Matériel’s internal clients.
Centralization also supports better tracking of performance, deadlines, volumes and maintenance operations. Previously, the lack of a single, reliable source for asset history made it extremely difficult to manage key performance indicators such as equipment turnover rates and technical team activity levels.
Overcoming challenges
The main selection criterion was business acceptance. The project team conducted a rigorous evaluation process, focusing on real-life field use. Benchmarking included demonstrations based on daily operational cases. Interoperability was also a key requirement: the chosen system had to integrate effectively with the Group’s financial ERP, as well as HR, transport and other third-party tools.
This process led to the selection of Attune EAM, supported by strong internal references—Bouygues Travaux Publics had already used the solution for seven years with excellent results.
“We had identified three main use cases: maintenance, warehouse management and flow tracking. In all these areas, the Group already had proven experience, with users unanimously satisfied with how Attune EAM handled maintenance and warehouse operations,” explains Alexandra Barikosky, Director of Transformation and Operational Excellence at Bouygues Construction Matériel.
A fast rollout
The implementation of Attune EAM was completed in just one year, following a tight schedule: about four months to prepare the specifications, four to five months for implementation and two to three months for testing.
Attune EAM was positioned at the core of equipment management, interfacing with the company’s major systems through an interoperability layer connecting the broader ecosystem. This strengthened both the speed and reliability of the IT architecture.
Realizing results
Deploying Attune EAM enabled Bouygues Construction Matériel not only to meet its initial traceability goals but also to initiate a wider transformation toward performance-driven management.
The success of the system is reflected in strong field adoption. Time tracking—a traditionally sensitive topic— was one of the biggest change management challenges but ultimately a major success.
All operational staff, on web or tablets, now log activity in a single system, replacing three separate tools. This unification, achieved with broad acceptance, has significantly improved data reliability.
The number of active users, including internal teams and worksite clients, far exceeds the original target. The ecosystem now counts more than 3,500 users.
A strategic decision: integrating the client into the solution
This figure also reflects a key strategic choice: integrating the worksites—considered internal clients—directly into the system. They now represent more than half of all users.
This shift drastically reduced informal exchanges by email or phone, replacing them with a single, shared request management interface.
The result is a new, accurate data source feeding reliable KPIs: requests by worksite or product line, processing times and team workload. Information that was once invisible has become the foundation for performance monitoring.
Better performance management
Centralized tracking has improved all equipment management KPIs. Oversight of diverse fleets is now standardized, ensuring higher maintenance rates and consistent monitoring of equipment turnover—once impossible to compare.
As Alexandra Barikosky notes, “There’s still work to do, but we now have a very solid base from which we can build and set roadmaps that help us improve our overall performance.”
A partnership built on experience
The relationship with Octave is viewed as a genuine partnership that goes beyond technical support. Since the solution is used by several major construction firms, Octave facilitates valuable peer exchanges.
“What matters to me is what happens after deployment. Octave’s willingness to bring together the leading construction companies around equipment management topics is very valuable. It allows us to share and learn while keeping our specific identity—even as competitors. In the end, everyone benefits,” says Barikosky.
This exchange of experience enriches the solution’s roadmap and ensures that Attune EAM continues to evolve in line with the construction industry’s needs.
Moving forward
Bouygues Construction Matériel is now entering a postdeployment optimization phase to make full use of its new system. The roadmap is clear: focus on operational excellence and user experience.
Again, Barikosky stresses the importance of listening to teams:
“We’ve deployed the tool, and the project is a success. Now we need to assess what’s really happening on the ground. Are we using the tool as intended? The challenge is to realign practice with design—because field teams move fast, fill gaps we hadn’t anticipated and sometimes adapt our original plans. We have the tool, we’ve built our main use cases; now it’s about observing how they perform and executing the roadmap accordingly.”
By placing Attune EAM at the core of its architecture and integrating it with major systems, Bouygues Construction Matériel now has a robust and scalable foundation to support such continuous improvement.
