Gruppo CAP, a leading publicly owned water operator in Italy, serves over 2.2 million citizens across Milan and surrounding provinces. The company faced a significant challenge: managing a vast network of assets spread across a large geographic area. Maintaining thousands of kilometers of water and sewer networks, wastewater treatment plants and purification plants required real-time access to consolidated data.
Gruppo CAP's data was scattered across various business systems, and the level of detail varied across sources. Critical information was often stored in Excel sheets, while paper records created delays and increased the risk of data loss.
Overcoming challenges
To address these issues, Gruppo CAP began searching for a suitable enterprise asset management system in January 2021. The team selected Attune EAM (formerly HxGN EAM), for its ability to manage complex assets, integrate data from multiple sources and support advanced capabilities without extensive custom development. The "hybrid agile" methodology used during implementation helped the project move quickly while maintaining flexibility and transparency. Gruppo CAP's Head of Asset Management, Matteo Belloni, says Attune EAM has played an important role in the team's progress and modernization efforts.
Realizing results
Through the adoption of Attune EAM, Gruppo CAP has:
Centralized asset data and reduced information silos
Gained a real-time view of assets across operations
Improved data-driven decision-making
Introduced KPIs and predictive analytics to optimize maintenance activities
Enabled field teams to access information instantly through mobile capabilities
These improvements have increased operational efficiency, enhanced service delivery and supported the company's broader sustainability goals.
Looking ahead
Gruppo CAP continues to build on this foundation. The team is preparing to incorporate Maintenance 4.0 practices into its operations, leveraging capabilities such as predictive maintenance and machine learning for anomaly detection.
According to Senior IT Project Manager Tiziana Lorefice, Attune EAM has become a critical business application.
The adoption of Attune EAM was a strategic decision and has become a critical application within the company. It will now be enriched with new integrations.
In partnership with I-AM and Octave, Gruppo CAP has laid the groundwork for the digital transformation of its operations.
As Matteo Belloni notes:
The path undertaken with I-AM and Octave laid the groundwork for the reengineering of our operations. This is a complex transformation that will take time, but we have enabled the continuous improvement of all our business processes and are already seeing the benefits.
