Not the CAD you know: Welcome to automated dispatching

Man Phoning For Help with a broken down car

Call-takers and dispatchers operate under stressful conditions at the center of dynamic and complex systems. To balance units’ workloads and deliver service to callers in a timely manner, meticulous problem-solving faculties must be fully engaged at all times. As event situations change, units take breaks and multiple events pile up, it becomes increasingly exhausting to juggle event monitoring, evenly distribute events and provide realistic estimated times of arrival (ETAs) to callers.

Introducing Octave OnCall Auto Dispatch

Octave OnCall Auto Dispatch (formerly HxGN OnCall Dispatch | Automatic Dispatch), an add-on to Octave OnCall Dispatch (formerly HxGN OnCall Dispatch), is designed to optimize response times by automating nonemergency or low-priority dispatch tasks. The product uses a heuristic optimization algorithm to automatically select appropriate resources for an event, calculate the ETA and handle resource distribution efficiently.

Automatic Dispatch is designed to be adaptable and useful in a variety of markets. It is particularly suitable for roadside agencies, non-emergency/low-priority public safety events and security companies.

Automated dispatching and event management

In a typical roadside scenario with OnCall Auto Dispatch, a call-taker first captures a caller’s information and creates an event. From there, the CAD software chooses the best unit for the job based on location, availability, tools, inventory, event type and cost. ETAs are calculated to share with callers but are continuously updated as circumstances change. The appropriate unit is automatically dispatched to the event when it becomes available.

OnCall Auto Dispatch assigns each unit a list of events called a “tour,” which is frequently updated and kept in the CAD’s memory. These tours provide more accurate ETAs and keep resources organized during busy times. The product can adjust tours as circumstances change, such as a unit going out of service, to meet existing ETAs.

Boost in efficiency and service delivery

OnCall Auto Dispatch also handles requests for assistance made via roadside agency apps.

“This means that for a lot of jobs, the next human contact apart from the person breaking down is that of the patrolman acknowledging the job when it appears on their MDT or mobile device,” said Rodney Gill, product manager for Octave.

In addition to these features, OnCall Auto Dispatch integrates with third-party routing services and solutions, boasts multithreaded performance and considers agreed response CAD events and times.

A breakthrough in dispatching technology

Automatic dispatching represents a significant leap forward in dispatching technology. It reduces the load and complexity of dispatch operations for call-takers and dispatchers, improves efficiency and ensures better use of available resources. With OnCall Auto Dispatch, agencies can deliver improved services to their communities like never before.
