Octave Attune and Visual K fuel DeNovo’s digital transformation

DeNovo Energy Limited is an energy company focused on meeting the energy needs of Trinidad and Tobago with specific focus on the petrochemical sector.

With strong local capability and global collaboration, DeNovo is distinguished for delivering innovative results to meet current and future energy needs. DeNovo believes in collaborating with global best-in-class players to remain globally competitive.

By teaming up with Attune EAM, DeNovo was looking to further optimize its operations with easy 24/7 access to resources, information, and tools from fixed or mobile devices.

EAM a priority from the ground up

DeNovo’s primary goal is to deliver safe operations at the highest standards” in line with its values, ensuring that the best interest of everyone from shareholders, to partners, to colleagues, communities, country, and environment, is achieved through all that they do.

When DeNovo brought its operations to Trinidad and Tobago, it had an advantage over legacy energy providers in that it was building a new facility. Being a relatively small organization among much larger and established energy entities, the company knew it needed a robust asset management and maintenance scheduling system.

This meant evaluating and planning for every individual component of the facility, ensuring it worked to optimize its operations as much as possible. That process began before the facility started construction in 2017.

The design and implementation processes for work management, maintenance planning, control of work, materials management, management of change, isolations, and lockout tag-outs were firmly in train before the plant commissioning started. Attune EAM has been tightly integrated with DeNovo operations from the start, and resulted in a consistently steady state for the DeNovo asset.

End-to-end, streamlined operations

The implementation process began with DeNovo drafting a set of operating standards which followed industry best practices and regulations. Visual K, an EAM integration specialist, had a very clear vision of the workflows and requirements. Through configuration of both Attune EAM and the Infor OS cloud platform, Visual K was able to meet the operating standards to the letter and to the satisfaction of the company.

At DeNovo, a technician can use a mobile device to identify a corrective action to be performed on a piece of equipment in the field. They can review assets from the registry, review technical drawings, submit work orders, and request any parts, materials, or services required. There are direct linkages via this tool to inventory, the purchase-to-pay process, control of work, and the work management areas.

Focused on continuous improvement and digital transformation, DeNovo quickly realized it had an opportunity to further optimize its EAM systems through automation. Specifically, it wanted to connect its EAM to its financial system to provide better reporting that not only supported sustainability and growth, but also met stringent regulatory requirements.

Challenged with the need to optimize its business model, DeNovo kept in line with its technology strategy and reviewed many different cloud-native tools that could meet its requirements.

After evaluating several vendors, DeNovo chose Attune EAM Mobile, running on the AWS cloud platform, for its forward-looking functionality, leading-edge mobile field work applications, and integration capabilities.

DeNovo was able to integrate EAM and its existing Financials within the needed timeframe and budget parameters. Except for the actual payment, the entire cycle which includes requisition to purchase order, with its corresponding approvals, receipts, invoice entry, matching, and approval is conducted using Attune EAM.

Today, Attune EAM integration with DeNovo financials through Power BI allows them to tie budgets to cost centers. All other departments, including engineering, production, maintenance, and procurement, have access to the integrated data.

“Whatever our initiative, we have gotten great support from Attune EAM and Visual K. They have always treated us as a priority, and that is unique” said Terrence Panchoo.

Scalability and security in the cloud

The EAM solution allowed DeNovo to maximize efficiency by utilizing all the functionality that was available to the team.

Attune EAM runs within the Amazon Web Services cloud and provides DeNovo with crucial data protection, as well as the assurance of operational continuity with access to information anytime, anywhere.

Whilst the current focus has been on upstream E+P, DeNovo has already identified other energy sectors where the solution can be applied.

A foundation for growth

Attune EAM was flexible enough to meet the unique and stringent standards of the oil and gas industry, as well as the expectations of both DeNovo and its parent company for a flexible and holistic system. Both powerful and intuitive,

it has been embraced by DeNovo’s staff, opening endless possibilities for further digital transformation.

DeNovo sees itself as a company with an appetite for innovation, not only in what it brings to the marketplace, but in its technology infrastructure. With one of the industry’s highest asset uptime of 99.8%, it attributes its success to its embrace and use of software and technology.
