This nuclear project is being funded by a leading energy provider and is under contract with two EPC firms working together as consortium partners. Services in scope include the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of two nuclear reactors - the first nuclear construction in the United States in more than 30 years.
Challenges
No systematic way to track over 70,000 materials
Material location times were too high
Need to mitigate re-procurement
The solution
The Loop Material Readiness deployment consisted of the following elements:
Mobile Devices: Handheld devices used to define GPS coordinates for active RFID tags and to sync collected data with the Loop Material Readiness server
Active RFID Tags: Suppliers and fabricators tag materials at their facilities which sends status and location data downstream through issue to construction
Loop Material Readiness was used to track the following types of assets:
Pipe spools
Structural steel
Modules
Embeds
Rebar
All supplier materials
Supplier equipment
Various bulk items
Results
Reduction in material location time by a factor of eight
Zero lost spools over a two-year period
Construction’s use of Loop Material Readiness provided material visibility and reduced the number of requests and inquiries to the materials management team
