Few Words from the President: "Progress Report on the CD Copy Master 24X"
Last newsletter we announced the launch of the CD Copy Master 24X. A progress report is due.
In the last thirty days we have sold units to Toronto - Canada, Montreal - Canada, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, UK, Washington, Oklahoma, Texas and California. Also interest has been expressed in places as far away as India and South Africa.
The CD Copy Master is sending shock waves through the industry. People are surprised at the quality of a unit that costs up to 60% less than competing units. A few have assumed that since it cost less it must be inferior to similarly capable products. The truth is it is better than the current products on the market!
We are still accepting inquires from potential resellers. Please call us at 1-800-626-8539 or e-mail us at resellers@octave.com

CD Knowledge Center "Books on CD"
Have you ever listened to "Audio Books on Tape?" Have you ever tried to find "Books on CD?" It is not as easy as you would think to find Audio Books on CD. We were fortunate enough to learn of http://www.tantor.com/ offering Audio Books on CD. Also they have Books in MP3 format on CD. Using MP3 20 hrs of an audio book can be fit onto one CD; the same book would take 10 tapes. Check them out at http://www.tantor.com/ The folks at Tantor purchased a CDD24/7 for their short run requirements.

Question
& Answer Forum:
| Q: |
I have many 50ft reels of 8mm and super 8mm movie film. Does anyone transfer these to DVD, without going through VCR phase. |
| A: |
Of course there is no such thing as direct film to DVD (it is the same as sending a printed photo via email)- one has to go through conversion to some sort of electronic medium. i.e. there is no way of connecting a film projector to a port on a PC. |

| Q: |
DVR-A03 writes to DVD-R GENERAL PURPOSE media. It will not write to DVD-R1
Authoring media. What is the difference between these two media's?
|
| A: |
The general version, intended for home use, writes with a cheaper 650-nm laser, the same as DVD-RAM. DVD-R(A) is intended for professional development and uses a 635-nm laser. DVD-R(A) discs are not writable in DVD-R(G) recorders, and vice-versa, but both kinds of discs are readable in most DVD players and drives. The main differences, in addition to recording wavelength, are that DVD-R(G) uses decrementing pre-pit addresses, a pre-stamped (version 1.0) or pre-recorded (version 1.1) control area, CPRM and allows double-sided discs.. |

In your January Newsletter you said that some DVD disks can hold up to 17 gigabytes. Now that the shops are full of DVD writers, rewriters and media I see that they are mostly for 4.7 gigabytes. Are there any DVD rewriters and media available ? |
| A: |
It is pressed DVD disks and not recordable ones that can hold 17 gigabytes. Pressed ones (like DVD movies) can be two sided and two 4.7gb layers per side. The reading laser can be focused to read either the upper or lower layer on one side. Recordable DVDs are not able to do that (yet!). |

| Q: |
I recently bought an external CD-RW for my PC. The unit is 24X 10X 40. When buying blank media I have noticed that the media comes in different writes speed (16X, etc.). The most common seems to be 16X. Is it necessary to sync the media X rating with how fast the unit is writing?
|
| A: |
The media is usually rated at its top speed i.e. that is the fastest you can write it. If your recorder is able to write faster than the speed of the media you must slow it down with the software driving it to the rated speed of the media.
Be careful with media that may be advertised as say 24x because there are some people selling old media that is actually much slower than that. If you get a lot of failures then the media is the first thing to look at.
Even if the media is a top brand it may be old stock that is not rated at the claimed speed.
The media we sell is guaranteed to run at the certified speed.

| Q: |
When burning with Nero it converts the file names from "The Tragically Hip - Fisherman's Paradise - 07 - 38 Years Old.mp3" to "THE_TRAGICALY_HIP_FISHERMAN'S_PA.MP3" How do I get it to keep the proper file name. |

Under Mix Mode tick the Joliet box. |
