Few Words from the President: "CD Copy Master being assembled in Europe"
The CD Copy Master is a hit with buyers and distributors. The highlight of last week is Octave has set the wheels in motion for setting up an assembly outlet in Brussels to service the European marketplace. Forecasting is very positive for the European market. Manuals are currently being translated into French and German. Manuals and the website are currently available in English and Spanish.
The success of the CD Copy Master is due to many factors (low price, reliable, etc
) but the one that is winning people over the most is the ease of use. We have demonstrated the unit to a lot of people. Most often people are shaking their heads in disbelief on how easy the CD Copy Master is to use. However the more sophisticated users are kept happy with the advanced features of the CD Copy Master.
We are accepting inquires for resellers in Canada and other parts of South and North America. resellers@octave.com

CD Knowledge Center "Octave's Tech Support"
"The sweetness of low price is long forgotten in the bitterness of poor quality". This could not be truer with regard to cheap CDR media. Some media is available at ridiculously low prices - below ten cents in some cases. Users feel really good about such low prices until they get failure after failure either in the recording process or soon afterward when trying to read this media. Add the cost of frustration and things are not so cheap after all!
Here at Octave we answer our phones with real people during normal business hours. While our legitimate customers appreciate this, some people that are not even customers try to take advantage by calling saying they bought a product from us and they need technical support. When we point out that the product is not ours and we did not sell it to them, they get angry with us and ask why we will not support it. The answer does not seem obvious to them!

Question
& Answer Forum:
| Q: |
I recently bought an external CD-RW for my PC. The unit is 24X10X40. When buying blank media I have noticed that the media comes in different writes speed (16X, etc.). The most common seems to be 16X. Is it necessary to match the media X rating with how fast the unit is writing?
|
| A: |
The media is usually rated at its top speed i.e. that is the fastest you can write it. If your recorder is able to write faster than the speed of the media you must slow it down with the software driving it to the rated speed
of the media.
Be careful with media that may be advertised as say 24x because there are some people selling old media that is actually much slower than that. If you get a lot of failures then the media is the first thing to look at.
Even if the media is a top brand it may be old stock that is not rated at the claimed speed.
The media we sell is guaranteed to run at the certified speed.

| Q: |
I have a CD I would like backed up via Stamping or else the backed up CD will not work. Are there any units that will allow me to stamp my own CD's rather than burning them to CD-R's ? |
| A: |
Sure - they cost about $1 MILLION each plus installation! |

|
| Q: |
Can a VCD (or SVCD) contain an audio session much like an orange book?
Or, when you burn the VCD or SVCD does it finish off the disk?
The idea is to have a CD I can put into my CD Player to listen to music tracks, while also being able to pop it into my DVD player (or VCD player) and playing the video portion.
|
| A: |
The VCD and SVCD standard do not allow this. It closes the CD after a completed write, so no additional data can be written to it.

| Q: |
Roxio EZCD Creator with the WinXP patches applied correctly has damaged my WinXP machine. I have to reformat it and start from scratch.
I've used EZCD on Windows 98 machines and have gotten used to it.
What would you recommend as an all around CD mastering software for
Win XP?
|
| A: |
Nero will meet your needs and works well with Win XP.

| Q: |
Is the Nero MP3 Encoder worth the money?

| A: |
We think it is.
