Main FAQs

1.1 Q We are looking for a stand-alone (no PC) device for recording tracks from many CDs/tapes onto a blank CD. Do you have anything that will do this?
  A

We have several options for you to choose from. The most popular is CD Duplicator is the Copy Master Line-up.

1.2 Q Do any of the CD Duplicators displayed on your site that have the capability of copying music, video or multimedia video games?
  A

All the CD duplicators we sell will duplicate music, data, etc. They will copy video games, but if the video game has copy protection techniques, then it cannot be copied. As for video, there are many different formats for video. In general, the rule is: if you can put the video on a hard disk on a PC, then you can put it on a CD. The duplicators will even copy DVDs, of course. See the DVD Copy Masters listed here.

1.3 Q What is the difference between duplication and replication?
  A

There are two ways of making copies of CDs. Duplication means recording onto a recordable CD (CD-R) rather like recording on audio tape - except a laser beam "burns" pits on the CD rather than creating a magnetic field. Replication is like stamping out the CD rather like a phonograph recorder - in other words, the pits are molded into the CD. Duplication is usually preferable for short run copying (up to 500 CDs), whereas replication is often used for large volume distribution. You can purchase a CD duplicator http://www.octave.com and do your duplication yourself. Replication is done by an outside source which has the replication equipment and usually has a minimum order requirement (often 500 to 1000 disks).
